What is coaching?

# Coaching will support you to release potential and obtain what YOU want from life. It provides focus and clarity. It builds confidence and develops self awareness.

It is about you recognising how you are living and working and then experimenting with new ways of thinking, doing and being in order to make changes.

Sessions are highly focused and act as a catalyst for decision making and change. We will identify goals and explore ways of achieving them.

This will include looking at any obstacles in the way.

All sessions are confidential.

(NB. When a company is paying for executive coaching, the contract will explicitly address expectations about client/coach confidentiality.)

How does it work?

Coaching is a one-to-one conversation either over the telephone or face-to-face. Weekly or fortnightly sessions are recommended in order to build momentum and maintain focus. Sessions last for 1 hour and together we will decide how many sessions you need. It may be just a few to give you clarity and focus, or it could be a 3 or 6 month package to see real sustainable change.

Sessions take the form of a dynamic conversation involving the use of questions to stimulate deeper thinking and bring about increased clarity.

What is expected of you?

In a nutshell - commitment! Commitment to what you want to change or achieve, commitment to taking action and commitment to staying with it even when it gets tough!

You will discover what motivates you and what holds you back. You will need to be prepared to step out of your comfort zone and into your stretch zone - your learning zone. You will never be asked to go into your panic zone!

What coaching is NOT

It is NOT therapy or counselling. It does not delve into the past and look at how you got to where you are now. Coaching starts with the 'now' and moves you forward.

It is NOT sitting and listening to advice. Excellent coaching is about helping you to find the answers to your own questions through the use of skilful listening and questioning techniques.

Coaching is NOT a cosy chat with a friend! It may well feel relaxed and will always be supportive but it will also be objective, goal orientated, dynamic and inspiring.
